Grok Bot Unsubscribe Clean-Up Routine
The Mailroom clean-up list routine is part of The Butler's Mailroom room. It runs saturdays on Grok Bot and suggests unsubscribes. Acts only on the ones you approve.
It uses Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar. Nothing is sent, paid, or deleted without your approval.
Paper mail piles up on the counter, and the inbox buries the few messages that actually need an answer. The bill, the notice, and the form with a deadline look just like everything else.
What the Mailroom clean-up list routine does
Suggests unsubscribes. Acts only on the ones you approve. It is one of the routines in the Mailroom room (I read the mail and email, flag what needs you, and draft replies.).
- Reads the photo you snap of today's paper mail and says who it's from, what it is, and whether it needs you.
- Sorts new email into clear categories and hands each item to the right room.
- Drafts replies for you to review. Nothing is sent until you say yes.
- Lists senders you never read and suggests unsubscribes, then acts only on the ones you approve.
The routine instruction
This is the wording from The Butler's Mailroom room PDF. Square-bracket fields are filled in during setup. Replace the bracketed parts with your own details.
- "Mailroom clean-up list": every Saturday at [CLEAN-UP TIME, e.g. 9:00 AM]. List senders I haven't opened lately with a proposed unsubscribe for each. Do nothing until I approve each one.
Connectors it needs
- Gmail (required): Reads and sorts your email, and holds draft replies.
- Google Drive (recommended): Keeps photos of paper mail with the Filing cabinet.
- Google Calendar (optional): Lets dates found in mail go to the Appointment book.
Grok Bot 101 lists Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive as connectors and says you can connect more than one account per service.
How to set it up
- Connect the accounts above from Connect apps.
- Run the job once in chat and correct the output until it's right.
- Ask Grok Bot to save it as a routine at the time you want, and check the instruction and schedule it writes.
- Pause it any time; the changelog (v0.52.0) added pause and resume for routines.
House rules: what it always asks first
- Ask first before sending any email.
- Ask first before deleting, archiving, or unsubscribing from any email.
Limits to know
- The Butler only reads the inboxes you connect.
- If it can't read a photo clearly, it says so instead of guessing.
Try saying
- "Here's today's mail." (attach a photo)
- "Forwarding this. Handle it."
- "What's waiting on me in the inbox?"
- "Show me the drafts you wrote today."
Other routines in the Mailroom room
- Mailroom sweep (Daily at your sweep times): Sorts new email, writes drafts, updates the Needs-you list.
- Morning briefing section (Daily, with the briefing): What needs you, drafts waiting, paper mail logged.
Frequently asked questions
How often does the Mailroom clean-up list routine run?
By default: saturdays. You choose the exact time during setup, and each run uses your Grok Bot usage, so fewer runs cost less.
Will the Mailroom clean-up list routine send or pay anything on its own?
No. The Butler's house rules require your approval before anything is sent, paid, deleted, or shared.
Where does the result show up?
In the Bot's chat, and the relevant items are folded into The Butler's morning briefing.
