Grok Bot Monthly Subscription Review

By Robby Thurston ·

Quick answer

The Monthly subscription review routine is part of The Butler's Ledger room. It runs monthly, on the 1st on Grok Bot and every recurring charge, changes, renewals. You decide.

It uses Bank feed, Venmo, Gmail, Google Drive. Nothing is sent, paid, or deleted without your approval.

Free trials roll over, annual renewals arrive unannounced, and charges show up under cryptic merchant names. Bills come in by mail, email, and app, each with its own due date.

What the Monthly subscription review routine does

Every recurring charge, changes, renewals. You decide. It is one of the routines in the Ledger room (I watch the bank, Venmo, and cards, and name the bills, the due dates, and the waste. I never pay anything.).

The routine instruction

This is the wording from The Butler's Ledger room PDF. Square-bracket fields are filled in during setup. Replace the bracketed parts with your own details.

- "Monthly subscription review": on the 1st of each month at 9:00 AM.
Every recurring charge, changes against last month, renewals in the
next 60 days, and candidates to cancel. I decide; you only draft.
- If the bank feed or statements are missing or out of date, say so.

Connectors it needs

Grok Bot 101 lists Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive as connectors and says you can connect more than one account per service.

How to set it up

  1. Connect the accounts above from Connect apps.
  2. Run the job once in chat and correct the output until it's right.
  3. Ask Grok Bot to save it as a routine at the time you want, and check the instruction and schedule it writes.
  4. Pause it any time; the changelog (v0.52.0) added pause and resume for routines.

Frequently asked questions

How often does the Monthly subscription review routine run?

By default: monthly, on the 1st. You choose the exact time during setup, and each run uses your Grok Bot usage, so fewer runs cost less.

Will the Monthly subscription review routine send or pay anything on its own?

No. The Butler's house rules require your approval before anything is sent, paid, deleted, or shared.

Where does the result show up?

In the Bot's chat, and the relevant items are folded into The Butler's morning briefing.
