Google Photos, phone scans, and receipts
Your phone is the family scanner. The question is where the pictures go. Google Photos is great for memories, and has features like face groups and partner sharing. For paperwork, Drive is the better destination, because Grok Bot can reach Drive through its connector.
Google's help pages describe scanning documents with the Google Drive app on Android. On iPhone, you can also snap a photo and send it straight to your bot in chat: the changelog notes HEIC photos from iPhones show as images in the conversation.
What's possible
- Snap a receipt and send it to your bot to file
- Scan a multi-page form into a Drive PDF
- Turn a flyer photo into a proposed calendar event
- Keep family photos in Photos and documents in Drive
Why it matters
Receipts and warranty cards are small, easy to lose, and needed exactly once, usually years later.
What Grok Bot can and can't do here
| Piece | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Photos you send to the bot in chat | ✓ Works directly | iPhone HEIC photos display in chat (changelog v0.54.0). |
| Google Drive scans | ✓ Works directly | Scan with the Drive app; the bot reads the file via the Drive connector. |
| Your Google Photos library | ✗ Not possible today | We found no official Google Photos connector for Grok Bot. Move paperwork photos to Drive. |
| Partner sharing in Photos | ↺ Works via a bridge | A Google feature for the family; it doesn't give the bot access. |
✓ = through an official Grok Bot connector, its browser, or a public API. ↺ = needs email, Google, IFTTT, a developer account, or your sign-in. ✗ = no supported route we could find.
The setup, in short
The Google Home Base Setup guide covers:
- Which app to use for what
- A scan inbox folder
- How the bot names and files scans
The house rule in every Butler guide: the bot reads, sorts, files, tracks, and drafts. It asks first before it sends, pays, deletes, or contacts anyone, and it never guesses a date or an amount.
Frequently asked questions
Can Grok Bot search my Google Photos?
Not that we can confirm from official xAI materials. Use Drive for documents.
What about iPhone users?
Send the photo straight to your bot in the Grok Bot app, or save it to Drive with the Drive app.
Is it safe to photograph IDs?
Keep ID scans in a restricted Drive folder and tell the bot never to repeat full numbers.
